"Making Bubbles" - 2018
My classmate and fellow filmmaker, Stephanie McQuade, chose to work on an animation for our Senior Editing Capstone at UNCW. She is very passionate about turtles so we co-wrote a script about a turtle who is harmed by a piece of litter. In the end, we wanted to show that, although humans are the cause of trash entering the ocean, we can also be the solution.
This film was created entirely in After Effects, with initial sketches and character drawings occurring in Illustrator.
Although my animation has come a long way since this project, I am extremely proud of this film. Stephanie and I had never created an animation this long before, or any fictional narrative animation in this medium for that matter. We had to teach ourselves a lot of the After Effects techniques that we utilized in the film, which made the process take even longer. On top of the regular coursework, we had to finish this film in three months. Halfway through our animation process, Wilmington was hit by Hurricane Florence and we had to evacuate our homes and miss classes for four weeks.
I am proud of our resiliency and the passion we had for this project. I loved the way we used sound design to elevate the story, and the textures we utilized to make this stand apart from other 2D animations in our class.
